A model’s base can be tricky business. Make it too simple, and the model looks simple, make it too busy, and it drowns out the model. One solution is to buy some of the amazing resin bases on the market, but sometimes you want to create a custom base yourself. So let’s do it. Today is a tutorial on building a custom base with spare bits, clay, and sand. After completing the base, I add a few extra tips on painting it. For this week’s Watch This, you may end up hating me because this isn’t a short video. In fact, the OrcPainterNerd put together over an hour of video on how to paint a weathered tank. It’s a fascinating as he walks you through why he uses certain colors, why he sprays random brown spots all over, and some great tips on using oils and powders. In fact, make sure you check out video four around minute 7 where he uses a brush and airbrush to create the mud spatter.
